Analgesics, NSAIDs & Opioids

Among India's largest-volume exports, but the category with the most active enforcement risk.

HS Code: 3004.90Markets: Global (non-opioid), restricted (opioid)Molecules Tracked: 78

What This Class Covers

Paracetamol and the NSAID family are among India's largest-volume, freely-tradable exports. Opioids in this class — morphine, fentanyl, tramadol, codeine and others — are NDPS-controlled and require Narcotics Commissioner authorisation and PO-specific CDSCO clearance. Tapentadol and tapentadol–carisoprodol combinations are currently treated as off-limits following 2025 enforcement action; we do not quote these.

Export Status Notes

Paracetamol and the NSAIDs are freely tradable. Every opioid in this class is NDPS-controlled — the single highest-risk area in Indian pharma export today.

Prescription Status Notes

7 of 78 molecules are OTC; 28 are NDPS-restricted opioids.
